The media can be a misleading thing for children. I recently had my 6 year old daughter ask me: “Dad, why is carbon bad?” I quizzed her why she thought carbon was bad and she told me that she had seen on the news about the need to reduce carbon emissions.

Carbon emissions is a sound bite that can be misleading. It is a misnomer. It is not carbon per se that is causing the world’s weather to warm up and melt the polar ice caps. Rather it is carbon dioxide that is given off by cars, industry, people breathing etc. that is the problem. It is not only carbon dioxide that is to blame for global warming. Other greenhouse gases such as methane are also contributing to the green house effect.

Carbon is not the enemy. It is the way that we use carbon based products and processes that is causing the problem. Graphite carbon is used to make pencils. Carbon brushes make the commutators for cars. Carbon electrodes are used for electrical discharge machining that makes turbines and aerospace technology. Nanocarbons with their large surface area are revolutionizing engineering and design. Rather than saying carbon is to blame, it should be recognized that carbon based technology may actually help us beat our dependency on fossil fuels (the burning of which releases carbon dioxide).

We cannot innovate and tackle the problems of global warming without using carbon based technology. It is important to make these distinctions clear to children. We should also do more to make the media avoid sound bites that are misleading our children. It is the battle of the teacher, it seems, to correct the erroneous views that children pick up from watching the TV.

Above, is a kids Youtube video that is funny but has the basic facts right. Although the phrase ’global warming’ is said too often and somewhat ominously.

At the age of three, kids are begin a completely different stage of their lives. Natural curiosity is leading them to discover and explore the world around them. It is also a time when you can start to observe developments of personality traits of your child. They start to know who they are and what they want and it is very important to build up clear borders and rules that will add to child stabilization and security.

It is very important to build up relationships based on trust. There are few things we can do stimulate personal growth of three year old’s.

Create routines for your child. A good schedule will let you fulfil your own plans and will give to your child a stronger sense of security. It is less likely that a child will cry because of a bath or the time when they have to go to sleep as they naturally adopt the routine as habit. When they grow up it will also make their lives easier when it comes to keeping structure.

Read to a child. It will not only develop your relationship with your child but it will also develop a child’s imagination and vocabulary. Every day reading is always a good idea as it tends to expands a child’s knowledge about the world. You can pick thematic books that will describe every day life, use of different items or even a stroll about in the local nature park.

Try to create a colourful room for your child. Pick calming colours and toys that are interesting while supporting intellectual development. You do not have to sell gold to do so. Sometimes your own imagination is the most important in creating colourful and children friendly environment. Three years old can be fascinated by the simplest things. Let them to be involved in changes they will be more than happy to help.

At the age of 5 Mozart had started composing his first music. At three years old Mozart could already play the violin and other instruments. John J. Stone-Parker at 4 years old is the youngest patent holder for a gadget to stop ice slipping out of a glass. Walter Lines started the highly successful toy company ’Triang Toys’ when he was just 14. He invented the kids scooter when he was 15. Chester Greenwood invented earmuffs when he was 15 and made a fortune selling them to US soldiers for World War I.

These are all examples of people starting young on their careers as inventors, composers and entreprenuers. The moral is that it is never too young to start. Young people are naturally creative and have the energy to achieve great things. We must nurture talent and encourage children to pursue their dreams. We mustn’t stifle talent with a Gradgrind approach to education. We also shouldn’t tell young people to be more realistic and buckle down.

If your child wants to invent a new precision tooling machine, register a patent, learn a computer language, take up a musical instrument, learn a foreign language, write a book then wev as adults should help to make their learning journey easier, explain to them the salient issues and above all be supportive. Of course, we all have dreams as kids of being famous, of pushing the boundaries of human knowledge; and, sadly all but the 0.01% fail. But nevertheless, we shouldn’t let our mediocrity affect our children.

Martin Amis, the famous writer, said we all write as children; it is those who continue writing who become novelists. Even if you don’t become a famous novelist you will surely have learnt a lot about prose, literature and the power of language. This could well lead on to a fulfilling career in another related field. The world is full of people doing jobs they don’t like. Do you want a similar fate to befall your kid?

My little boy and I have been getting along really well since his terrible twos. Everything was just fine until this past week. We have been starting some new activities together which had been absolute an absolute blast. We started to do aren’t together that made me feel like a real dad. Finger paints, glueing together collages, all kinds of arts and crafts. It’s great because he’s also learning about cleaning up after making a mess.

But on Saturday I decided to take him for a treat. We went to our local ice cream parlor and I shared with my son our first milkshake. He loved every last drop. He took out the straw, and played with it. Watching it drip back into the glass and then sucked up every last drop with a big smile on his face. I was very happy to have brought so much joy to my little son.

When I got him home we started playing with arts and crafts, it wasn’t too long before I realized that our green paint was almost gone I looked at our paintings and saw very little of it used,. I was confused. That was when my little boy smiled at me and I saw his bright green teeth. It seems that, taste was very little of the joy my son had enjoyed, it was mostly the slick syrupy texture. The similarity of consistency that was convincing him to drink our, luckily non-toxic, finger paint. Over the course of the next two weeks he tried every color of paint we had in the house, as well as most of the glues. We now have a house devoid of all artistic materials besides colored pencils. He’s a lovely boy but he’s making it difficult for us because while we are searching for a larger property to rent. Now, we are adding to the list of things we need. Cabinets five feet high, is at the top of that list.

The wine industry certainly needs to be careful with how it markets itself. No one inside or outside the industry wants people under the age of 21, especially children to be able to buy wine.

When you give a wine gift to someone, there should be some sort of process to make sure that the wine you shipped will not be consumed by someone underage.

So what place do children have at a winery or within the wine industry? The wine industry itself is incredibly child friendly, largely because most wineries are still family owned and operated. Additionally, quite a few schools in the Bay Area of California are using their relationships with wineries to help them teach science and math which are in increasingly short supply in the United States.

Whilst every child develops at a different rate, most follow a particular sequence of events that are usually quite predictable. This is a run down of how a three year old may develop.

Exploration is the key to learning for a three year old and he or she will use all their senses dto garner as much information as possible. Even when you take them out of their baby stroller, they will be running around, picking things up, smelling and tasting as they go. Their language will also really improve and not only will they learn heaps more new words, they will also start to understand pronunciation and be able to form simple sentences. You will find that your three year old will really enjoy starting conversations with you and will even talk, with you prompting, about their personal experiences. Not only will conversation progress but communication in the form of stories, poems and riddles will all be understood a little better.

With added ability to move about and to run and play comes the ability to offer emotions in the forms of hugs and kisses for other playmates. Although your three year old loves to explore and play, they still feel the need to be close to parents and other familiar adults at all times. They will begin to learn about emotion and why they feel a certain way and what different physical actions mean.

Although this piece only covers a small part of how a child develops at the age of three, it shows how aware children can be at this age and how much of a sponge of information they become. They are heavily influenced by what they can see so it is important to teach them as much as you can during this important development phase.

For many adults the risks of smoking tobacco are clear as day but they still, in some circumstances, make a personal choice to continue. This is mostly down to their addiction to nicotine and the fear of trying to break the habit. Some would argue attempting to convince these people to quit is a waste of resources that would be better spent educating children from a younger age. A shocking 90% of smokers start in childhood and many are drawn to it because they think it makes them look older, more independant and appear cooler. For those that smoke an alternative is a great step forward and using an E-Lites discount code to purchase an electronic cigarette is a great step, although they contain nicotine they deliver it without the need of tobacco and the thousands of chemicals it contains. Start educating kids at a young enough age and the amount of smokers could be cut dramatically.

in their 40s. In fact most kids pick these things up completely based on intuition. The same goes with the IPad – very young children can use it with virtually no instruction at all.

The education experience is though dependant on the software available and there’s no shortage of quality education software available for the Ipad.

The device is ideal to bring education and fun together and a great little application for younger children is called Fish school. The fish swim through a series of learning challenges and rewards the children with games after completion. It’s got great graphics and a wonderful soundtrack which the fish swim along to.

The reward concept is also strong in ’Build a Zoo’ where children have to fill a zoo with animals. These are earned by completing various task like spelling, maths and quizzes – all the levels increase in difficulty which helps keep the kids interested and challenged.

Of course there are hundreds of other apps for all ages you can also use it in other ways for entertaining children. It is now possible to access BBC Iplayer abroad on the Ipad by using a VPN – there are some wonderful BBC childrens programs which you will then be able to access. It’s also worth checking out the various drawing, art or books that you can access through the Apple store all usually very reasonably priced.
